At the RWTH Aachen, more than 5,600 international students are registered. That is almost 20 % of all students. They come from 130 countries of the world: the numerically largest groups are the Chinese, the Turks, and the Indians.
For the support of international students, the International Office (previously: Akademisches Auslandsamt) works together with the student organization INCAS (Interkulturelles Centrum Aachener Studierender – Intercultural Center for Aachen Students). INCAS supports newcomers with apartment hunting and bureaucratic errands. Also, they organize a weekly Stammtisch (regular’s table for a special interest group that meets on a regular basis), a language tandem program, excursions and tours. A comprehensive Service Point is currently being built at the International Office.
Over 300 Aachen students yearly go abroad within the frame of exchange programs. A slightly larger number of international students come in programs at the RWTH. The RWTH Aachen has many partnerships with international universities. There is a double diploma agreement with the Ecole Centrale de Paris in the subjects mechanical engineering, geo-resources and material technology, as well as electrical engineering and information engineering.
