INterkulturelles Centrum Aachener Studierender (INCAS)

The INterkulturelle Centrum Aachener Studierender (INCAS) is a student initiative at the RWTH Aachen that works for two goals. On the one hand, INCAS wants to offer help and support to international students at the begin of their stay and during their course of studies in order to ease and improve the integration at their academic institution and city of study. On the other hand, the communication between international and German students should be improved. In addition, advising on different topics is offered. INCAS offers also individual help, for example with filling out forms. When needed, new international students will be accompanied to bureaucratic offices, banks, etc.

At the beginning of the semester, a full day of greeting and informational events is organized for international students; in addition, INCAS organizes an informational day for students at the Studienkolleg Aachen once a semester.

AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l'Europe)

AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l'Europe) [German only] is a forum of European students with approximately 17,000 members in over 250 local groups. AEGEE was founded in 1985 in Paris. AEGEE is a non-profit and apolitical organization that tries to make the European idea a reality. AEGEE is not bound to any department; every student can join AEGEE.

The goal of the organization is to bring together students from all possible corners of Europe and different subjects of study, discuss all possible topics with each other, and just have a lot of fun. Through various events of the local groups, AEGEE practically supports European integration and cultural exchange. So develop friendships and personal contacts over country boarders.

What does the AEGEE do in Aachen?

In Aachen, there are about 60 members. These are students of the RWTH Aachen and the FH Aachen. Among their activities are:

  • Participation in language courses in all of Europe ("Summer Universities")
  • Every summer, members have the opportunity to participate in two-week language courses in all of Europe – like, for example, in Rome, Madrid or Paris. Altogether, courses are offered in over 70 cities. In addition to language courses, there are other events, like courses in history, sports, and many other topics.
  • Support for international exchange students
  • Here, AEGEE helps with formalities, among other things. In addition, parties, excursions (city tours, canoe weekends, etc.) and many other recreational activities are organized.
  • Organization of a language course in Aachen
AEGEE organizes a German course in Aachen for other AEGEE members from all over Europe. Every summer, about 20 students come to Aachen in order to learn German for 2 weeks and meet the students in Aachen. The course is usually taught by students of German language and literature, especially those doing a degree program in teaching who would like to practice.
  • Travel through Europe
There is an event that one can visit somewhere in Europe almost every weekend from AEGEE. This includes congresses on different topics or pure recreational activities. Also, one has the opportunity to meet students from other countries.

With AEGEE, one quickly has friends all over Europe!

Regular Meeting:
There is a meeting ever Monday starting at 9 pm in Cafe Papillon (Pontstrasse 151).

AVRWTH

The RWTH student council created a representative council to deal with the special interests of international students and students without citizenship. Its (9) members are voted upon yearly by all international students and students without citizenship. Their assignment is to actively engage in the problems and worries of international students. They serve as a first contact point for international students in Aachen and offer help and advice on all concrete questions about the begin of one’s studies, for example with registration, apartment hunting, translations, in relation to bureaucratic matters and health insurance as well as (international) legal questions.
