From Aerospace Technology to Wind Energy Engineering: The TU9 Universities offer a wide variety of degree programmes with plenty of different specialisations. Traditionally, the emphasis is on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). At the moment, you can choose between more than 900 degree programmes on the undergraduate and graduate level. On this page you will find an overview of all degree programmes in the STEM subjects offered at TU9 universities:

 

 

 

 

RWTH Aachen University is divided into nine faculties offering more than 130 degree programmes. It specialises in engineering, and more than half of its over 42,000 students are registered in this field.

  • The research strength of RWTH Aachen University is confirmed by figures from the Federal Statistical Office. With more than € 130 m. According to the CHE Ranking, its research reputation is particularly high in the degree programmes architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and especially chemistry.
  • In the German Excellence Initiative, RWTH Aachen University was successful with its institutional strategy and was awarded the label  “University of Excellence”. In addition, the graduate school AICES and the cluster of excellence "Integrative Production Technology for High-wage countries" are funded within the initiative. 
  • In the CHE Ranking, the degree courses in biology and mathematics received particularly high grades from the students. Studying conditions and supervision were rated as excellent.

TU Berlin has seven faculties offering about 100 degree programmes . The main focus of research and teaching is on science and technology. About 80 per cent of of the almost 33,000 students are registered in engineering and the natural science programmes.

  • TU Berlin’s research strength can be particularly demonstrated by its success in the German Excellence Initiative which provided funding for the graduate school "Berlin Mathematical School" and the cluster of excellence "Unifying Concepts in Catalysis"
  • The "German Telekom Laboratories" on the TU Berlin campus are a shining example of the successful cooperation between science and industry.
  • TU Berlin focusses especially on the international orientation in a lot of its degree courses and is ranked among the best in achieving this goal, as the CHE-Ranking shows.

TU Braunschweig is organised into six faculties offering almost 70 degree programmes from architecture to physics. Of 18,500 students, almost every other is enrolled in engineering programmes.

There are 18 faculties at TU Darmstadt, offering in total 110 degree programmes. Most of the 26,000 Darmstadt students are registered in engineering programmes and natural sciences.

  • Its success in the German Excellence Initiative testifies to the research strength of TU Darmstadt. The German Research Council and the Science Council approved the funding of the graduate school "Graduate School of Computational Engineering" and the cluster of excellence "Smart Interfaces".
  • TU Darmstadt is highly attractive to international scientists: In the Humboldt-Ranking,which counts the stays of international scholarship holders and prize winners at German universities, TU Darmstadt is in first place for engineering. Moreover,  the proportion of international students, at 17 per cent, is significantly higher than the national average 11 per cent.
  • In the CHE Ranking, the degree course in mechanical engineering received particularly high grades. The students especially rated the supervision by the teaching staff as excellent. Moreover, the degree course in informatics was voted to be very good and  the students stressed the excellent IT-infrastructure.

TU Dresden is divided into 14 faculties, offering about 130 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. Almost half of the 37,000 students are registered in engineering programmes.

  • TU Dresden represents top level research in the new German federal states and has been awarded the label "University of Excellence" in 2012. Within the German Excellence Initiative, the graduate school "Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering" and the cluster of excellence "From Cells to Tissues to Therapies" are being funded at the TU Dresden.
  • According to the Federal Statistical Office, TU Dresden received more than € 168 million in third-party funding in 2010, and thus took third place in the nationwide ranking of all universities. Particularly in electrical engineering, information technology, systems technology, and construction engineering and architecture, TU Dresden is in the top group, as can be seen in the funding ranking of the German Research Council.
  • Students awarded top marks to the degree programme in biology. According to the CHE ranking, students rated the equipment of laboratories and the library as excellent. On top of that, TU Dresden's degree course in electrical and information engineering is among the best in all rated criteria.

Leibniz Universität Hannover is divided into nine faculties, offering a total of 90 subjects in 160 full-time and part-time degree programmes. More than half of its 25,000 students are enrolled in natural sciences and engineering.

  • The research strength of Leibniz Universität Hannover is revealed in particular in its success in the German Excellence Initiative, with the funding of its cluster of excellence "Centre for Quantum Engineering and Space-Time Research"
  • In the CHE Ranking, the degree course in architecture received particularly high grades from the students. Organisation of studies, supervision, equipment of the workplaces and libraries were rated as excellent. The students also rated the supervision in the course of geo science/earth science to be very good.

At Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) there are eleven faculties offering almost 50 degree programmes.  43 per cent of its 24,000 students are registered in engineering and 34 per cent in natural science programmes.   

  • In 2009, Universität Karlsruhe and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe merged into a new Instiute, the "Karlsruhe Institute of Technology" (KIT). KIT's graduate school "Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics" and the cluster of excellence "Center for Functional Nanostructures" received funding within the Excellence Initiative.
  • In the funding ranking of the German Research Council (2012) KIT is in the top group: seventh place in total and third place for informatics and electrical engineering. According to the Federal Statistical Office, in 2010 KIT was again among the top 5 regarding the amount of third-party funding.
  • Students reward the overall study situation in the courses of mechanical engineering and informatics with excellent grades. Especially the equipment of work places and supervision are voted to be very good in the CHE-ranking.
