China and the Media Age

TU’s media scholar trains journalists in China

Zhejiang University in Hangzhou – partner university of the TU Berlin in China – establishes the first professorship for media studies at the Institut für Deutschlandstudien (Institute for Germany Studies). Amongst other things students there will be educated to become journalists following the European approach. The chair of the professorship will be held by the TU’s media scholar and historian Prof. Dr. Barbara von der Lühe. The professorship is encouraged by the Hamburg-based companies Christ Capital and the Datenlotsen Informationssysteme.

Accredited in China

The recent accreditation of the TU’s Institut für Technologie und Management (ITM – Insitute for Technology and Management) was enabled by the support of the Chinese embassy in Berlin and the governors of Shanghai and Beijing. “In China, this is a complicated state affair”, explains the head of the institute, Prof. Dr. Frank Straube.

“Besides Aachen, Munich and Cologne we are the fourth university in Germany accomplishing that.”

TU computer scientists train IT specialists for Afghan universities

Within the scope of a project promoted by the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service) and the federal Department of Foreign Affairs 18 academics from two universities in Afghanistan are trained at the TU faculty for computer science, starting October 2006. The young guests, half of them female, will be enabled to teach computer sciences at schools in their country, thus contributing to its academic rebuild.
