Living in Darmstadt

The Technische Universität Darmstadt is an academic “light tower” in the city of Darmstadt, which rightly wears the title city of science and has almost 140,000 residents.

The TU Darmstadt creates its attractiveness, among other things, out of the collaboration with excellent non-university research institutions directly on location – for example with the four  Fraunhofer Institutes that deal with security in information technologies, with graphic data processing or with the load-bearing capacity of new materials. The TUD also keeps up contacts to ESOC, the satellite control center of the European space agency ESA and to EUMETSAT, another organization located in Darmstadt for meteorological satellites.

AIn addition to all this scientific excellence, the arts live in Darmstadt : the  Deutsche Polen-Institut (German – Poland Institute), the Jazz-Institut, the Design-Zentrum Hessen and the Institut für Neue Technische Form are always good for interesting surprises.

Not to forget the Darmstädter Mathildenhöhe, the large center of Jugendstil and breathtaking witness of a comprehensive reform movement around 1900.

A new epoch of Darmstadt's city history will be introduced at the end of 2007: by this date a new architectural sensation-causing Wissenschafts- und Kongresszentrum (Science and Congress Center) will open directly at the Uni-Campus City.
