International

Internationality is a main priority at TU Dresden. There are partnerships with over 120 universities worldwide. From Dresden, it is no rare thing to study a semester at a Japanese, French or Russian university. The quota of international students is about 10 per cent. In the years since German reunification, TU Dresden has greatly esxtended its international cooperation and made new contacts mainly in Western Europe as well as North and South America. At the same time, the already existing close connections to Central and Eastern Europe are being further developed. There are also very good contacts with East Asia, which is manifested by the high number of East Asian students, who amount to about 20 per cent of all non-German students, followed by a couple of Central and Eastern European countries (Poland, Bulgaria and Russia, together about 10 per cent). After the political turning point, however, more young people from Western Europe began to be interested in a degree program in Dresden – mostly French and Spanish.

The team from the Akademisches Auslandsamt (AAA - International Students Office), as well as several student initiatives, works to support international students. For example, the LinkPartnerPrograme arranges contact between international and German students. The Erasmus initiative of the TU Dresden organizes a weekly “Stammtisch”, social meetings in a bar, where students from all over the world can meet each other, as well as numerous cultural events like city tours, excursions, brewery tours or rafting rides on the Elbe River. The “Studentenwerk” Student Services in Dresden offers international students a service package. For an inexpensive all-inclusive price, a dorm room, sheets, eating utensils etc. can be booked.
