Knowledge does not stop at borders. Researchers cooperate increasingly across boundaries but also come together interdisciplinary and inner-departemental within EU-projects at TU Dresden.
Main focus are the framwork programmes for research, technological development and demonstration of the EU. The TU Dresden is participating in 100 research projects of the 6th Framework Programme with a third party budget of 25 million Euro.
To provide administrative support for scientists, a European Project Center has been established.
The research association Central and Eastern Europe had been exisiting even before our neighbours became members of the EU. A focal point has been lately cooperation with university in Ukraine. Subjects are civilian aviation, surface cleaning technologies, data protection and environment protection. Projects are supported by the EU-programme TEMPUS.
The CentralEuropeCenter for Government, Economic and Cultural Studies (MeZ) is interested in cultural changes in the area of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe.
In addition to the Institute for Franco-Canadian and Franco-American Studies CIFRAQS the International Center for Computational Logic (ICCL) ought to be mentioned.The Department of Informatics is in charge here. Among the main sponsors is CologNet, up until now the biggest inter-university research network funded by the EU.
The European Project Center (EPC) is in the area of research support one of the important project managers (finances, allocation, project management) at TU Dresden. Particularly through project management , the EPC maintains and coordinates cooperation with higher education institutes from 37 countries. Using the university cooperation programmes of the EU, the TU Dresden extended the project volume with countries from Eastern Europe, the Balkan and South East Asia remarkably. In spite of difficult political conditions the cooperation with Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Bulgaria and Uzbekistan could be intensified. In total, in the academic year 2005/06 14 big projects with a total volume of 3.8 million Euros have been tendered. In addition tot this, the EPC coordinates the cooperation between TU Dresden and the Kiew Institute for Civilian Aviation (NAU).
The EPC administers 3 large-scale projects with partners from Northern Africa and the Balkan as well as 7 large-scale projects with a total volume of 3.2 million Euros. The partners in the Asian area are from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnahm, Laos, China and Bangladesh.
