Life in Hannover

As the state’s capital city, Hannover is the economic center of Niedersachsen and has, not only because of the world’s largest computer conference CeBIT, an international reputation at its disposal. Hannover is considered the most central city in Germany and one of the greenest cities in Europe. It offers its residents, and this naturally includes students, a wide offering of cultural institutions, sporting activities, colorful festivals, interesting shopping opportunities and naturally also numerous nature spots for rest and relaxation. The most well known are the Herrenhäuser Gärten and the Georgengarten, on which the main building of the Universität Hannover, the Welfenschloss, lies.

Culturally, Hannover offers a large variety: for lovers of modern arts, the Sprengel-Museum and the Kestner-Gesellschaft, or for classical music and ballet, the opera house.

Also in literature, Hannover has a large value. The author and caricaturist, Wilhelm Busch, has a steady place in the museum named after him. Modern projects, for example, the Literarische Salon in the 14th floor of the Conti Hochhause of the Universität Hannover offers young writers, famous authors or other artistic types the opportunity to show their work. Additionally, jazz clubs, bars, and the brisk life in the alleys of the old city invite one for a multifaceted and diverse evening.

Hobby sportsmen and women are well off in this city. The trails along the Maschsee Lake, the Ihme and Leine Rivers offer ideal paths that are equally loved by joggers, walkers and skaters, as well as those who go for a stroll. The Zentrum für Hochschulsport – Center for University Sports – of the university offer an unusually comprehensive sports programming – from aqua fitness to yoga, from skiing to soccer – that is well liked.
