Developing pride in being oneself and the courage to experiment – this is what House of Competence (HoC) and its innovative approaches stands for.
The novel institution HoC commenced operations in February 2007, joining five facilities of the University of Karlsruhe under one roof. HoC is the contact point and main juncture for all those who wish to enhance their competence. A great variety of course units is available for the faculties to train their students in key qualifications.
HoC is the service centre for the acquirement of competencies and efficiency in learning. Moreover, it promotes cross-disciplinary research in projects involving social, cultural, educational, engineering and sports sciences. The House of Competence (HoC) was one of the elements of the strategic concept submitted by the University of Karlsruhe in the “Contest for Excellence”, a Federal programme to promote science. HoC participates in the foundation process of KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), gaining further impetus in this context. HoC is also funded by the state Baden-Württemberg according to an agreement between University and the state, stipulating that a House of Competence (HoC) be established at the University of Karlsruhe.
