WIRE (Worldnet of Intercultural Relations in Education) Karlsruhe

WIRE [German only] is an intercultural internet portal in Karlsruhe that should serve international applicants as an information source about studying in Germany and Karlsruhe. Here, important questions can be answered before the beginning of their stay in Germany. WIRE offers a platform to support intercultural communication with chats and forums.

AK Erasmus

The AK Erasmus [German only] is small club of Karlsruhe students who would like to make life a bit easer for international students in Karlsruhe. Focal points of their activities are:

  • Arranging apartments
  • Help in the orientation phase: here, Karlsruhe students receive you and show you everything that one needs to know to survive in Karlsruhe
  • The AK Erasmus also manages a mailing list, ERAS-INC-L, through which you can reach all other newcomers

Here is an overview of the events that the AK Erasmus organizes:

  • At the beginning of every semester, an information evening is organized that, on the one hand, informs about what the AK Erasmus does, and on the other hand, answers question about studying abroad.
  • Every week on Thursdays, there is the Erasmus Stammtisch (a regular meeting of people with similar interests)
  • Every semester, there are different culture evenings, which representatives of different countries and cultures organize

Advising in the Infocenter (Studentenwerk Karlsruhe)

Hannelore Maas from the Info-Center in the Mensa foyer of the Universität Karlsruhe lends a helping hand to international students with advice and action.

  • Here, you can receive tips and help with residence problems and with questions about bureaucratic offices, banks, and much more.
  • Ms. Maas offers informational days with tours through the university and city, and additionally excursions, meetings and theme nights for settling in and feeling comfortable in the new surroundings.
  • During the semester, there is the Wednesday meeting of exchanging opinions at the Info-Center, Wednesdays from 6pm to 7:30pm.

In order to support the international newcomers with settling in in the unknown surroundings, the Studentenwerk – Student Services – has called a Patenschaft “Adoption Program” into life. For this, students and residents of Karlsruhe and the surroundings are sought out who have the interest, desire and time to accept an “adoption”.

This is how you find someone to “adopt” you: Fill out the registration form and send it by mail or email to the Studentenwerk Karlsruhe or turn it in at the Info-Center in the foyer of the university Mensa – dining hall. Your desire for contact will be forwarded to possible people to “adopt” you. Interested persons will then contact you.
