International

Around 600 international scientists and a high percentage of international students (20%) prove that KIT is an excellent international university. Unique in Germany is the concept of the International Department of the university: There are three English-language ‘Schools’ that are closely linked to industry and which operate internationally:

  • The Carl Benz School of Engineering with an English-language Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and an English-language Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • The HECTOR School of Engineering &Management with five part-time Master’s programmes for executives as an advanced vocational training for engineers, economists and computer scientists.
  • The Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics (KSOP) with a special Master’s programme in Optics & Photonics and a systematic support for PhD students within this field.

The Infocenter of the Studentenwerk – Student Services – of the university advises international students. Additionally, there is a weekly meeting for exchanging opinions as well as excursions and theme evenings. The AK Erasmus at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology plans a weekly Stammtisch (a regular meeting of people with similar interests) and supports the newly arrived international students in the orientation phase in that it arranges a local student as a tutor.

WIRE is an intercultural internet portal in Karlsruhe that should serve international applicants as an information source about studying in Germany and Karlsruhe. Here, important questions can be answered before the beginning of their stay in Germany.
