Life in Stuttgart

 

The quality of life is just right: Stuttgart counts, with 590,000 residents, among the greenest large cities in Europe. The capital of the state Baden-Württemberg lies in the middle of vineyards and forests, numerous parks and nature spots invite you to stay. Additionally, the nearby areas of the Schwäbischen Alb and Black Forest offer friends of nature numerous opportunities for hiking, climbing and winter sports.


Those interested in technology are also well-served: Stuttgart is home to the oldest automobile manufacturer worldwide and has a 115 year history of automobiles to show for itself. This history is closely tied to the names Gottlieb Daimler, Carl Benz, Wilhelm Maybach and Ferdinand Porsche.


Also culture is not short-changed in Stuttgart; the Stuttgarter Staatsoper (Stuttgart State Opera), the Internationale Bachakademie (International Bach Academy) and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart (State Gallery of Stuttgart) enjoy an excellent reputation.
In Stuttgart, the Swabish dialect is spoken. In Swabish, the city is named Schduargerd.


Universität Stuttgart


As a campus university with two locations convenient to public transportation and connected by commuter rail, attractive nearby recreation possibilities and an integration in the cultural life of the city are granted. Stuttgart university provides top academic and working conditions and diverse career chances for graduates.


The cost of living in Stuttgart is between 600 and 700 euros per month. For a single room in a student residence hall, one pays between 150 and 300 euros per month. The Studentenwerk, which is responsible for the management and placement in residence halls, arranges private rooms as well. One should arrange a room a few months before arrival because the apartment hunt in Stuttgart is not so easy.

The Allgemeine Hochschulsport der Universität Stuttgart (General University Sports of Universität Stuttgart) offers diverse sporting activities. Next to traditional sports there are also adventure sports like kite flying, nature sports like climbing and mountain biking as well as sporting excursions.
