TU9 Activities at GAIN23 in Boston

Annual Meeting & Talent Fair of the German Academic International Network, August 25-27, 2023.

TU9, the Alliance of leading Technical Universities in Germany, will be represented at the German Academic International Network (GAIN) Annual Meeting and Talent Fair in Boston, August 25-27, 2023, with several events. In workshops, discussion panels, and at the Talent Fair, TU9 representatives will provide advice on funding opportunities and career paths at TU9 Universities.


On Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., the TU9 workshop "Innovation & Transfer - Careers between Science, Business and Startups" will take place. Professor Angela Ittel, TU9 President and President of TU Braunschweig, Professor Ursula Staudinger, President of TU Dresden, and KIT alumnus Dr. Christian Reimer, Co-Founder and Head of Product of HyperLight, will present career paths and opportunities between science and business. They will show creative career opportunities and new paths that are open to returnees in addition to the established career paths in science.


On Friday, August 25, 2023, Professor Angela Ittel, TU9 President and President of the TU Braunschweig, will be part of the workshop "Forum Humanities and Social Sciences". The panelists are experienced humanities and social scientists with experience abroad and occupy positions in the science system that enable them to speak about major developments. At the same time, Professor Wolfram Ressel, Rector of the University of Stuttgart and former TU9 President, will join the workshop "Forum Natural and Engineering Sciences". In a discussion, personal and institutional experiences with different career options will be discussed.


On Saturday, August 26, 2023, Dr. Bettina Wagner, Managing Director Ingenium, TU Darmstadt, and Professor Franziska Lang, Vice President for Academic Careers, TU Darmstadt, will be among those offering advice in the workshop "Insights into Appointment Processes - Dos and Don'ts." At the same time, Professor Frank Behrendt (President's Representative for International Affairs, TU Berlin) is part of the workshop "Individual Career Paths in Academia - Ac-tively Shaping Career Phases and Transitions in Consideration of Funding Opportunities". Prof. Dr. Nabeel Aslam from the TU Braunschweig is the speaker at the English-language workshop "The Tenure-Track Professorship in Germany".


On Sunday, August 27, 2023, Professor Wolfram Ressel, Rector of the University of Stuttgart, will look at "Three Ways to a Successful Return to Germany" together with Oliver Kaas, Consultant for International Researcher Mobility at KIT. At the same time, Dr. Bettina Wagner, Managing Director Ingenium of TU Darmstadt, will be a speaker in the workshop "Career Paths in Science Management". In the workshop "From Lab to Leadership - The Importance of Good Leadership in Science", Angela Böhm, Career Development Officer at the Graduate Academy of the TU Dresden, and Professor Ursula M. Staudinger, Rector of the TU Dresden, will share their experiences. Simultaneously, Professor Angela Ittel, TU9 President and President of the TU Braunschweig, will join others in the workshop "Networking from Abroad for a Call in Germany" to provide impulses on scientific networking and concrete tips on how to increase the chances of success on the path to a professorship.


At this year's Talent Fair, seven TU9 Universities will once again present themselves with current job offers and funding opportunities: TU Berlin (No. 40), TU Braunschweig (No. 60), TU Darmstadt (No. 19), TU Dresden (No. 21), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (booth No. 42), TU Munich (No. 59) and University of Stuttgart (No. 41).
