Leading Institutes of Technology start joint free online courses in winter semester 2016/2017
The alliance of leading German Institutes of Technology (TU9) offers six German and English speaking MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) on engineering topics, in winter semester 2016/2017. Aside from courses on communication acoustics, traffic ecology and contemporary city planning, renowned professors of these areas of expertise organise online courses on hydrology, aircraft engines and methodological skills of engineering sciences. All courses start in October, respectively November 2016. From now on, interested parties find further information on each MOOC and on the registration for these courses online via www.tu9.de/mooc. After successful attendance a certificate of participation may be acquired. For some programs of study within the network these courses are curricular, but students from outside the TU9 alliance may test their knowledge in presence tests at the Institutes of Technology, as well, gaining possible ECTS.
“The speciality of our offer is that for each online course at least two universities of the TU9 alliance cooperate. Thus, we provide students with various perspectives on relevant topics, and they may profit from bundled expertise of the TU9 network”, says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ralph Bruder, speaker of the TU9 committee for studies and teaching.
Alongside the claim to engage in excellent research under the TU9 label, the alliance aims at a continuous improvement and extension of its teaching portfolio. The MOOC concept enables the communication of expertise, and initiates networking and exchange of course participants thanks to various learning activities. Video lectures by professors are the core course media, complemented by self-testing, panels, and quizzes.
